Sports and fitness addiction: Disorder, diagnostic and therapeutic approaches
You are cordially invited to the next lecture on 11 June at 17:30 in the amphitheatre of “Banque de Luxembourg”. The event is free to attend and registration is not required.
Nadine Teusch is a clinical psychologist and licensed psychotherapist at the Zenter fir exzessiivt Verhalen a Verhalenssucht (ZEV) in Luxembourg. Her professional focus is on the assessment, counseling, and treatment of behavioral addictions, with a particular emphasis on excessive exercise and fitness-related behaviors.

In her lecture, Ms. Teusch will explore the phenomenon of sports and fitness addiction, characterized by a compulsive drive for intense training, neglect of other areas of life, and the continuation of physical activity despite negative health consequences. She will present current scientific insights into the clinical features of this disorder, discuss diagnostic criteria and the differentiation from other mental health conditions, and address the challenges involved in making an accurate diagnosis.
Special attention will be given to the psychological and social consequences of exercise addiction, which may include withdrawal symptoms, mood disturbances, social isolation, and physical overuse injuries. Ms. Teusch will outline evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including psychotherapeutic interventions and prevention strategies, and will share insights from her practical work at ZEV.
The lecture will be organised by the Société Luxembourgeoise de Médecine du Sport (slms.lu). It will be given in English and is open to the general public. The presentation will last approximately 45 minutes, followed by a Q&A session. We hope to see you there!
Attendance at the presentation is free and registration is not required.
