Born in Differdange/Luxembourg, Nationality of Luxembourg.
 Medical studies in Luxembourg and Brussels. Orthopaedic Residency in Belgium and Germany (Dept. of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Saarland Medical School, Homburg/Saar-Germany).
Diploma of Orthopaedic Surgery in 1998 and of Special Orthopaedic Surgery in 2001 by the Medical Association of Saarland / Germany. Doctoral thesis on meniscal repair with highest honors in 2001; professoral thesis (habilitation) on anterior cruciate ligament injuries in children in 2003, extraordinary professor in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Saarland in 2007. Co-director of the Luxembourg Olympic Medical Centre in 2008 and the Sports Medicine Research Laboratory of the “Centre de Recherche Public – Santé” in 2009.

Fellow of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine since 2001. Member of many national and international medical professional societies. Currently Vice President of the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA), board member of the Luxembourgish Sports Medicine Society as well as the German-speaking Society in Orthopaedic and Traumatologic Sports Medicine (GOTS). From 2003 until 2005 chairman of the arthroscopy committee of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS).

At the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg since September 2004, first as Head of the Department of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery; from 2008 as Head of the Department of the Locomotor system. Areas of activity: Orthopaedic sports medicine; Primary and revision knee, hip and shoulder reconstructive surgery; Arthroscopic and shoulder surgery. 

Scientific work: Analysis and improvement of diagnostic, surgical and non-surgical principles of overuse and sports-related joint injuries and diseases in children, adolescents and adults. Investigation and promotion of primary and secondary prevention initiatives in sports medicine and joint surgery. Editorial board member and reviewer of many scientific journals in orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine. Author and co-author of numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. 

 

Prof. Dr Romain Seil

Né à Differdange/Luxembourg, de nationalité luxembourgeoise. Etudes médicales à Luxembourg et Bruxelles. Formation spécialisée en chirurgie orthopédique en Belgique et en Allemagne (Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de la Sarre, Homburg/Saar-Allemagne). Diplômé en Chirurgie orthopédique par la chambre des médecins de la Sarre, Sarrebruck, Allemagne en 1998 et diplôme complémentaire en Chirurgie orthopédique spécialisée en 2001. Obtention d’une thèse doctorale à l’Université de la Sarre sur les réparations méniscales en 2001 également. Thèse d'agrégation à la faculté de Médecine de l'Université de la Sarre sur la ligamentoplastie du croisé antérieur pendant la croissance en 2003. Nomination comme professeur extraordinaire en Chirurgie orthopédique aux Cliniques Universitaires de la Sarre en 2007. Co-directeur du Centre Médical Olympique Luxembourgeois depuis 2008, de même que directeur associé du Laboratoire de Recherche en Médecine du Sport au Centre de Recherche Public Santé. 

Fellow de l'American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine depuis 2001. Membre de nombreuses sociétés savantes nationales et internationales. Actuellement Vice-Président de la Société Européenne de Chirurgie du genou, de traumatologie sportive et d’arthroscopie (ESSKA), membre du conseil d’administration de la Société Luxembourgeoise de Médecine du Sport et de la « Gesellschaft für Orthopädisch-Traumatologische Sportmedizin » (GOTS). De 2003 à 2005, président du comité arthroscopie de la société internationale de Chirurgie du genou, de traumatologie sportive et d’arthroscopie (ISAKOS).

Au CHL depuis octobre 2004, d’abord comme médecin chef du service de Chirurgie orthopédique et traumatologique, ensuite comme chef du Département de l’Appareil Locomoteur. Spécialisé en orthopédie et traumatologie sportive, chirurgie reconstructive du genou, de la hanche et de l'épaule, chirurgie arthroscopique des grandes articulations.

Activité scientifique : Analyse et amélioration des approches diagnostiques et thérapeutiques des maladies et blessures dégénératives et sportives chez l'enfant, l'adolescent et l'adulte. Amélioration des mesures de prévention secondaires après traumatisme sportif et chirurgie articulaire. Amélioration de la prévention primaire des blessures et traumatismes sportifs. Auteur de plus de 150 articles scientifiques internationaux et de plus de 30 chapitres de livres.
